The Art of Home

Dear Friends and Family,

Much of the business of real estate relies on cold, hard facts: sale price, listing price, price per square foot, days on market, impressions, clicks, building reserve funds. It can be easy to overlook another equally-important aspect: The ART of real estate.

ART definitely includes the visuals—we won’t present a listing without gorgeous photos and videos, top-notch branding and impeccable web presence—but there’s just as much ART involved in working with buyers and sellers and the presentation of all the data and visuals. As brokers, we need to be able to do the ultimate job of data scientists: translating the raw numbers into feelings and emotions, and also translating our buyers' and sellers' emotions into deals.

I was fortunate to wrap up March surrounded by some of the most talented artists (a/k/a Real Estate professionals) at the in-person Buzz Conference in Toronto. The amount of creativity and passion in one room was exhilarating and I was honored to be on stage talking about the importance of relationships in the industry. Be it peer-to-peer or agent-to-client, the nuances of people are what make Real Estate such an extraordinary art.

Equally extraordinary is the recent recognition by RealTrends of Compass as the largest brokerage in the United States by closed sales volume in 2021. This incredible accolade is especially impressive considering that Compass didn't even exist 10 years ago. With this growth comes the amazing opportunity to connect more people in more places to the homes of their dreams.

As a bastion of dreamy design, Architectural Digest recently announced its legendary list of top designers and architects, the AD 100. To show off the artfully designed homes The Luxury Division at Compass just launched a look inside the artfully designed homes that have been represented by Compass. Peruse some of the most exclusive enclaves in the country designed by the extraordinary designers and architects.

This love of luxury can be seen in the Manhattan Real Estate market which saw more deals over $4M in Q1 2022 than Q1 2021, a trend that extends across the market.

Escalating rents, a desire for more space, and the return of pieds-a-terre buyers has created a sense of urgency. Coupled with inventory drops in top neighborhoods especially of trophy properties ($10M+) is leading to an overall increase in demand as evidenced by higher prices, especially per square foot.

Equally exclusive, is the coming Jean-Michel Basquiat exposition: King Pleasure. This unparalleled exhibition of over 200 never-before-seen and rarely shown paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations, ephemera, and artifacts tell the story of Jean-Michel from an intimate perspective, intertwining his artistic endeavors with his personal life, influences, and the times in which he lived. If you're in the city, it will definitely be worth a visit.

Beyond art and architecture, I am excited for the beauty of Spring as flowers bloom, the weather warms, and we begin to socialize outdoors more. Wherever you find yourself this month, take a moment to stop and smell the cherry blossoms. And as always, if you need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out.

All the best,
