On the Horizon

Dear Friends and Family,

As we round the corner into fall, I'm reminded to keep my eye on the horizon and look out for the opportunities ahead. It's important to use your past performance and experience not to just see what's coming, but to predict and prepare for what's coming - to figure out what's beyond that horizon line.

This is especially true in business right now as many companies look for new ways to stay on top in an ever-changing market. Nationally, real estate transaction volume was down 10% year-over-year in Q2, but Compass's transaction volume increased 2%. Compass is building on that momentum and continuing to grow our market share while also committing to operating cash flow positive in 2023.

Remember that forward motion isn't always linear. Watching Serena Williams's final performances in the US Open was enthralling. While her career as a competitive athlete is sunsetting, she has a bright future in Venture Capital.  Back in 2014, she saw beyond her tennis horizon and started Serena Ventures.  Now, her ability to effect global change includes investing directly in businesses and people that she believes in. Already, 76% of her portfolio is invested in organizations led by founders from historically underrepresented backgrounds, which will undoubtedly lead to growth in communities typically overlooked by VC.

As a female entrepreneur, I am extremely proud of the career I have built. Even now after 38 years, I am still always looking out for what's next! When I represent a home with views that stretch out to the earth's horizon, I know I've found somewhere special. This is part of what draws me (and many of my clients) to penthouses. In addition to "being on top," penthouses offer rare opportunities for urban living.

Finding just the right fit for a penthouse client is what I like to call, "The Art of the Penthouse." While our penthouses at 30 Park Place, and 350 West 50th Streetcertainly have expansive views, they are not alone. We have two new listings coming this month with equally stunning vistas. Stay tuned!

If you are in the market to buy or rent, it's important to keep an eye on the horizon, because many things are moving fast! We listed 347 Bowery, Unit 9/10 for rent and had an application pending before we could even send out a "just listed" notice about the property. The market is definitely in flux, but that doesn't mean it's slow. As Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Here are some exciting things on the horizon in NYC.  Be sure to have a look before they pass you by!

The horizon holds endless possibilities, so make sure to focus on your priorities, both personally and professionally. If you think real estate is in your future, give me a call. I'd love to help charter your course to success.

All the best,
